ALUMNI is definitely the best out of what I saw...but everything else was still quality. I would push ALUMNI through for sure. I think it's your best bet to catch viewers and hold on to them...
  • Crystal
Just saw Alumni...It's the best one by far in my opinion, so I voted for that one. Hope to see more in the near future! Very cool and talented newcomers!
  • Casey
This show seriously looks like it would be awesome. Just hoping it will get picked up.
  • Jayme
Just watched the episodes again this week online, but I really wish there was more to watch!! I'm dying to know what happens! When can we expect more episodes?
  • 523music
The show has been so entertaining and relatable, I hope it gets picked up by another network because I think there is a wider range of viewers who would appreciate the concept. Nothing else like it, great job and can't wait to see its success!
  • LOVE Storyline!! They ROCK! Everyone reading this post should go out and but 10 albums;) Privileged to use their music and all the other great indie bands that are a part of this show!

Please read this article and think about your outlook on your comments and your over all outlook on life, as I'm sure you talk about this kind of thing often.
There are a lot of other things worth noticing other than race.

Well first TBoyd before you start casting stones and trying to cast roles, you need to tell us who you really are. Are you CBod or are you TBoyd? Are you someone trying to build the show up or are you aiming to tear it down. Maybe you should let the director be the director (the man in charge) and let him call the shots. If you really want to be in the show, do what he says to have a chance at being in the show. Like he said, if you're good enough, and it sounds like you could be, then you could land a role.

Excited about the show and want to know more about it!

I am pretty stoked about this show! The theme song is done by my son's band, Storyline. I can't wait to see it! :)
  • Just to dispense with the rumors. Started working in TV when I was 15. Took out my first business loan when I was 16. Homeschooled so I could work for ESPN all around the country. Hired my first employee when I was 17. Attended a College in upstate New York, way to far away from home. Made some killer friends, "struggled" when I lost "my core". Still miss them. Came home to work in TV with my bro. Eventually had 7 employees. Had a cash crisis. Had to fire most of them including myself. Had to borrow a ton of money. We worked our way back up the entertainment ladder. We've finally found a measure of success, still paying off the massive debt.

So how am I unqualified to write a show about struggling to make it in life on your own after college?? Just curious.
  • Patrick
    Well said.
You and your brother are amazingly talented and I am looking forward to your show and I applaud you for the success you have acquired thus far. Oh, and congratulations on video of the year at the Dove awards.
And however it came about, I would like to personally thank you for selecting our song as the theme song for the show.
    God Bless.

    Jon,

We're excited to see how your life experiences play into the show. I'm excited to see the premiere!

  • hello everyone,

Very interesting debate going on here! I'm the writer / co-director. Speaking to the issue of diversity, we cast three African American actors in the parts of the bosses, not because of their race, but because they nailed the auditions. SPOILER ATERT they are all reoccurring series characters, one will be a key mentor in the show. There is also a key hispanic character that did not make the trailer. As for the young leads, I didn't specify their race in the script, and we had open auditions of over 300 people in various cities and the web. The best actors got the parts.

Having said that I'm still looking for a actor to play a foreign exchange student and in need of several other series parts. So please, send you headshots / demo reels to casting@erwinbrothers.com T.Boyd after all your posts I'm expecting a killer reel! All the best!
  • Ashley
One of the main girls is part Hispanic and there is an African American actor in the first episode. There is a lot of diversity seen once you get into the first three episodes, if you give the show a chance you will see that. It has great potential and is incredibly captivating.

Where did the writers go to college? I read another blog that said they have never attended college and were home schooled. I just find it hard to believe that writers/directors can direct and/or write about something they never experienced. Quite simply, these people do not know what it's like to struggle, to miss that core you create in college, and to search for your place in the world.
  • First . . . can I see this show in SWMO? How do I find out where I can get it.
Where are the students graduation from?
Can't wait to hear from ya
  • T.Boyd,

As I've mentioned before, all of these types of shows are handled by outside production companies. It is your responsibility (or your agent's) to find and audition for the parts. As opportunities come available, we will make them known on our website.

I don't like to write off shows until I've seen it for myself, but this does remind me of "Dawson's Creek", which I loved. I would like to know when it will premire, what chanel, what time, and also will it be avaliable to watch online if I don't get the chanel?

    Thank you.
  • Jaymie
Well...anyways...I hope the discouraging comments of a few don't affect your decisions on this show...
Thanks for your patience with the comments. Keep us posted with updates!
It's great to see that some people can just enjoy things without always having to be perfectly "PC" all the time and find what's wrong about everything. You definitely can't always please everyone! It's exhausting for sure.

Thank you for coming up with new fresh content! I hope the people who spent their time and creative energy making this show don't feel let down...you guys seem awesome and I wish the best for you!

Be bold. Can't wait to see what's next! :)

I just watched the trailer and I honestly don't understand how it raised diversity concerns - unless those who raised them didn't watch the trailer all the way through - where, it just so happens, there are two scenes - each with one of the graduates in a job interview with an African American hiring manager (the only hiring managers whose faces you actually see are both African American). Now...obviously, the nerd guy won't be getting hired - but it's quite possible that the other graduate could get hired by the African American hiring manager. If so, given that this series seems to be about how these grads adjust to life after school as young working adults, it's quite possible that one element to emerge during the series could be the interplay between the one grad and his African American boss - which means this African American could appear quite often in the series - and not just as any character, but one in a position of authority no less. You also don't know if other African American characters will emerge - perhaps dating or marrying one of the grads. Bottom line...you haven't read the scripts so you should be more careful about making such serious judgments. I'm confident your concerns will prove unfounded.
  • Becky Henderson
well said amstel! Thank you for being open-minded enough to get to know us before you judge us and seeing the possibilities of where we are taking the show with future episodes.
  • T.Boyd
    Amstel,

Why are the main characters all whites? There are other college graduates that are from other races. All I am saying this is the 21 st century and America is the most diverse country in the world. The show should exhibit that!! It appears that it may be a decent show.
  • Daren
One of the main girls is Latino.

Nevertheless, this is a show about life after college, stepping into the real world and being successful.

I watched the trailer and the first three episodes and I don't see the concerns you are insistently stating. Although it is not important and I don't feel the need to state my race, I can say I am not white and I am not as upset about the casting as you are. I do not find this any different of a cast as the rest of the shows out there.

There are a lot of people in the world and this show is aimed to touch on issues and situations that everyday people face. You need to watch a few episodes and not miss the message. You are obviously concerned with the topic of race, but you are missing the point of the show. It is easy to pick apart any show or network for any reason and this being a new show means there is a lot of potential. The guys running the site and casting the episodes are taking everyone's comments into consideration, even yours. You should just wait it out and see where it goes.

This show has a lot of potential and is positive entertaining and will be a great addition to day time TV and I don't think its fair to discourage all the hard work they have done to get the show and the network to this point.

    Respectfully, Jimmy
  • @natedoogg33 & 11seven,

I'm all ears on this and other conversations, as I hope you can see. However, I do not find it productive to engage in conversation about things which are based on assumptions. While I agree that the intentions of your argument are good, the basis is unfounded. That being said, this is the last that I'll reply about the topic of diversity.

    Respectfully,
    Kyle

  • To all,

  • To all who are concerned with this show and it's diversity, or lack thereof...

In a TV network, there are 24 hours till fill. That's 48 1/2 shows, 36 1/2 hour and 1-hr...you can divide it up however you'd like but the point is this, this is just one show out of many.

As to the issue of diversity, based on how the conversation above has gone, nothing I can say will change anybody's mind. This argument goes back so far in time that it would be audacious for me to think that anything said here will clear the air. So rather than jump into an argument that is based on a lot of assumption about our casting process, show target market or anything of the like, I choose to acknowledge your concerns and take them into consideration for future shows.

Thank you all for your dialogue and interest in the show. Your conversation and feedback are helpful and appreciated.

    Kyle

"What you are saying is just an easy way of keeping the show all white." -

T.Boyd, I suggest you watch the show when it is released and come back to the forum when you can prove your point. Fortunately for Alumni, and the network, you will not have that opportunity because there are blacks in the show. Right now you are simply incorrect. The show is going to rock your socks off... just give it a chance before making inaccurate assumptions.
  • shirley
I think Bill Cosby said it best when he said to stop saying woe is me and become what you want to be.
  • Jaymie
Amen to that! I am wondering why people keep saying there is no diversity in this show...both of the high profile bosses in this small clip are African Americans...also I hear that there will be more in the first three episodes and that Rachel is half Latino and her mother is as well. One of my friends is involved with the show and said that they are adding a few other characters as well that are of a different ethnicity. There are shows out there that are made up of mostly minorities like:
The George Lopez Show, Fresh Prince, The Bernie Mac Show, Harlem Heights, Baldwin Hills, Sister Sister, My Wife and Kids, Everybody Hates Chris, The Wayan Bros Show, The Jamie Foxx Show, The entire BET and UPN channels...etc etc...not sure what the deal is to have one with less diversity in the main cast...I mean, we haven't even seen the episodes yet or given the writers a chance to see what happens later on in the season. Seriously.
And I am also an actor and I have never found it easier to land a role like this because I am Caucasian. Actually the opposite. Because of the demand for diversity (which is a great thing btw) most agents don't want another one of me because they already have plenty. It took me forever to find an agent and it's that much harder to land roles because they want more minorities these days and not the cookie cutter WASP blonde haired girl or brunette. I've actually lost roles before to someone of a different ethnicity even when the director said I had a better audition because they didn't want another Caucasian on the film/show....I'm not complaining, honestly..I'm just saying that in my opinion, I don't think it's fair to say that it's harder to "land a role like this" because you are not Caucasian. Common guys...instead of complaining, let's just give it a chance. If you really feel morally opposed to the main characters being all Caucasian, then don't watch it. There are plenty of other shows out there with the exact opposite situation or at least with mixed diversity. I enjoy them all. I hope you would too.
  • MASH

not a big fan of the name change. you need something that will suggest action and spark interest for the audience. "Alumni" doesn't do either. Honestly, it sounds more like a boring class reunion than a show I would want to watch. There's got to be a more creative name for this series or it may suffer because of it.
  • Great job. I think the show is going to be absolutely fantastic. Cant wait to start watching. When does it start?
  • Shelia
Great show-looks like it will address some of todays issues for young adults- can't wait to see the whole thing- when will it be on???
